Amidst it All: Let Go and Let God
I think we can all agree that everyone has something that isn’t going right in their lives.
And that’s why I am glad when I can speak with someone who has a knack for turning my negative into a positive. I am encouraged as well when I can speak life into someone’s doom and gloom situation.
We live in a fast paced world and we want to make sure that we have a handle on everything that concerns us. We like to be in control. When things are out of whack, we get anxious and nervous and miserable.
As maturing Christians, we know we are called to deal with these hurdles in life in a different way. We know that we have to put our faith and trust in God, entirely, for His strength, His wisdom, and His guidance.
There are a couple of sayings we tend to draw on to see us through these troublesome times:
1. "Where God guides, He provides."
2. "God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called."
3. "God will make a way."
4. "If God brings you to it, He will see you through it."
5. "Trust in God's plan."
6. "God's will, God's bill."
7. "With God, all things are possible."
8. "God's grace is sufficient."
But truth be told, it can seem a little unfair for us as believers, when the seas get rough, when the fiery furnace is made seven times hotter, when we are thrown in a den of lions.
Nevertheless, we are called to trust in God's sovereignty - His supreme power and authority - and allow Him to lead.
Certainly, one of the first things we must do is to acknowledge our limitations and accept that we cannot change or control everything. I know that’s a little difficult for some people.
That’s why we need to let go and let God. Embrace divine help, knowing that God is with us, sharing our struggles. Then amidst it all, we will find that peace that only Jesus gives, that peace that passes all understanding.
John 14:27 NIV “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
And Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Family, it’s really all about surrendering to God, in the midst of the tests, trials, adversities, problems, chaos…when the difficulties, barriers and obstacles present themselves and you don’t know where or who to turn to or what else to do to solve them.
Again, it is important to know and believe the Word of God. There we find comfort, consolation, encouragement, motivation, reassurance, help, and support.
We can refer to scriptures like:
Psalm 37:5-6 “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.”
Psalm 46:10 “He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.””
Psalms 55:22 “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Isaiah 26:3-4 “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.”
Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Matthew 11:28-30 ““Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.””
1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
And Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Need I go on? Is anybody encouraged this morning?
These are definitely some scriptures we can memorise and recall whenever we are feeling overwhelmed and need to speak to that spirit.
Family no matter what it looks like, feels like, sounds like, God is in control and there is no need for us to fear anything or anyone.
Amidst it all, when we let go and let God, we find peace and joy, as He fulfils His promises and provides us with the guidance and strength we need to go through.
And of course, we must remember to give thanks always. Because letting go and letting God is not something we do once and that’s it. It’s a continuous journey of trust and surrender.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
