Add Light to Your Circle

“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”

That’s Genesis 1:3-5 and I read from the King James Version of The Bible.

You would know this to be the beginning of The Creation Story, when God made the heaven and the earth.

The Word of God tells us that the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” That’s verse 2 of Genesis chapter 1.

In His wisdom, God saw there needed to be light in this world He was creating. So light is a good thing. Never mind today that this world is again shrouded in darkness.

As Christians, we are called on to add light to our circles.

For us, light represents several key concepts:

1. Divine Presence and Glory: In the Old Testament, God's presence is associated with light, such as the burning bush that Moses encountered (Exodus 3:2-4) and the pillar of fire that guided the Israelites at night (Exodus 13:21-22).

2. Light represents Goodness, Purity and Holiness. 1 John 1:5, “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”

3. Truth and Knowledge: This we find in the Bible. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105. God's Word provides guidance and understanding. It illuminates the path for believers.

4. Jesus is the "light of the world" - the source of spiritual illumination and salvation. In John 8:12, it says, “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

5. Light represents Salvation and Hope: When we were born, we entered a life of sin. When we acceptJesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we are transformed from a state of sin and separation from God to one of redemption and eternal life. From darkness to light. Ephesians 5:8-9 “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)”

And #6 - Christian Witness: As Believers, we are called on to add light to our circles.  As the Light of the world, Jesus revealed divine truth, displayed God’s love, exposed and overcame sin, provided a righteous example, sacrificed Himself for our salvation, and empowered believers to continue His mission. Matthew 5:14-16 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

So we have a responsibility as Christians, wherever we go, to be light, to add light, to expose and root out darkness. Darkness represents the enemy - evil, sin, and ignorance.

So wherever we go, we must be bearers of light, illuminating our surroundings with the love and truth of Jesus. As followers of Christ, our lives should radiate His light, bringing hope, clarity, and warmth to those around us.

This exhortation today is meant to be encouragement for my soul, encouragement for your soul. Because the transformation from darkness to light is not just a personal change. It must be seen in me and you, you and I, everywhere we go, in our homes, in the community, at the supermarket, in the mall, at work, at church…everywhere.

Let’s go forth today adding light to our circles. Many people are sad, angry, discouraged, hurt, vindictive and negative, and need to be guided towards Jesus the Light of the World.

We are His Vessels.

Let’s create a circle of influence where Christ’s love and light shines brightly. Engage in acts of kindness, share a smile, offer a word of encouragement. As we do so, we will find that our circle will become a reflection of Christ’s love, a haven of light in a dark world.
