Fresh Anointing for Unity in the Body of Christ

The subject of infighting within the Body of Christ is one that has been going on for a long time and it continues today.

The Apostle Paul, in 1 Corinthians 1:10-13 spoke about factions within the Corinthian church, urging unity and reminding them that Christ is the centre of their faith, not individual leaders.

In James 4:1-3, James gave a reason for division within the Body of Christ. He pointed out that this often stemmed from selfish desires and wrong motives, and he called on believers to seek God with humility.

So fights, conflicts, disagreements are nothing new. Doesn’t make it right. But it’s a sad reality that we have seen happening throughout the ages.

Thanks be to God we are not left without wise counsel, from Jesus Himself, who provided a framework for resolving conflicts within the church.

In Matthew 18:15-17, Jesus emphasized direct communication and accountability.

So, unity in the Body of Christ, the community of believers in Jesus Christ, is not just an ideal situation, but a mandate from the Holy Spirit.

We need a renewed outpouring of God's Spirit, presence, and empowerment to foster unity, togetherness, oneness and harmony among each other. Fresh anointing for unity in the Body of Christ.

When we receive that fresh anointing, it creates the atmosphere for unity. Without that, confusion sets in, seeds of discord are sown,  arguments and chaos become the norm, leading to division.

Fresh anointing is so important therefore for fostering and sustaining oneness among believers.

Unity is sustained by the Spirit’s anointing.

As seen in Psalm 133:1-2, unity among believers is likened to the precious oil poured upon Aaron’s head, symbolizing the Spirit’s power flowing through the entire body of Christ.

Psalm 133:1-2 NKJV “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments.”

I don’t know about you, but I sure do need more and more of this precious oil to be poured on me, from the top of my head to the soles of my feet. I need to live in peace, I need to love like Jesus loves, I need to do more to help others, I need to see people as God sees them so that I can appreciate the command for us to fulfil the law of Christ, as it says in Galatians 6:2.

That fresh anointing is so needed in our churches today, so that we can live in one accord. There is just too much impatience, pride, self righteousness, puffed up attitudes, Christians not talking to Christians, getting upset over petty things, falling out over silly misunderstandings.

Family, true unity requires believers to walk in humility and patience, striving to maintain peace through the Spirit.

Ephesians 4:1-3 calls believers to walk worthy of their calling with these virtues, which are cultivated through the Spirit’s anointing. “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

If we think less of ourselves, stop being egotistical and full of ourselves, if we understand more of who Jesus is - humble, servant, meek, and who He wants us to be, we would be well on the way to living in unity one with the other.

Some of us act like we are the ones to be worshipped and dare anyone to mash our corn they will get the brunt of our anger and rejection. May the Lord help us.

So we need that fresh anointing to empower us to live in unity. Jesus desires unity for His followers, mirroring the oneness within the Godhead.

In John 17:21 we see Jesus praying for unity. “That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.”

The Bible further encourages us in Colossians 3:14 “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”

So can we say then that where there is confusion and chaos and division and infighting that there is no love? Hmm.

That’s what is suggested in the scriptures, that love, empowered by the Spirit, is the adhesive that holds unity together in the church, in the Body of Christ, yeah in our families and friends circles.

Acts 4:32 “Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.”

1 John 4:12-13 “No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.”

Romans 15:5-6 “Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Family, unity allows believers to glorify God with one voice and purpose. If we are not united, something is wrong. And we need an outpouring of fresh anointing to shake us up, renew our spirits and to get on the right track with Jesus.

By seeking a fresh anointing from the Holy Spirit, the Body of Christ can experience renewed strength, love, and alignment, fulfilling Christ’s prayer for unity and making a powerful impact on the world.
