Fresh Anointing to Avoid Falling for The Enemy's Old Tricks

It’s a new year and as Christians we have to ask ourselves some hard and serious questions.

For example: why are we not doing more exploits for God and winning more souls? Where is the manifestation of what Jesus said in John 14:12 that the person who trusts me will not only do what I’m doing but even greater things? 

And the question I invite us to focus on now is why do we still fall for the old tricks of the enemy? Why is it so easy to doubt the Word of God and succumb to the devil? 

For isn’t that what it is when we yield to temptation?! We give Satan access to us. We entertain him. 

I encourage myself as I encourage you today, to remember that Jesus has given us power and authority to rebuke the devil.

Luke 10:19 KJV: “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Family, one thing we know from the encounter in the Garden of Eden to our own personal experiences today, is that the enemy is subtle, his tricks aren’t always obvious. 

2 Corinthians 2:11 MSG warns us - “After all, we don’t want to unwittingly give Satan an opening for yet more mischief—we’re not oblivious to his sly ways!”

This is why we must emphasise and seek fresh anointing every day. Without this fresh anointing, we can become vulnerable to his deceit. 

The Holy Spirit’s anointing sharpens our spiritual awareness, keeps us alert to the enemy’s subtle manipulations.

Isaiah 10:27 KJV - "And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.”

A fresh anointing is essential for breaking the yokes and burdens the enemy tries to place on us. The old tricks of the enemy are designed to bind us, but God’s anointing provides the strength to break free from these cycles of oppression and deceit.

So Family, we need to be spiritually alert. We cannot be distracted. 1 John 2:20 AMP tells us “But you have an anointing from the Holy One [you have been set apart, specially gifted and prepared by the Holy Spirit], and all of you know [the truth because He teaches us, illuminates our minds, and guards us from error].”

The Holy Spirit gives us discernment, allowing us to recognize when the enemy is trying to trap us. A fresh anointing helps us to see past the enemy’s old tricks and reminds us that we have already been given the power to resist.

Ephesians 6:10-11 MSG "And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way."

Pray to receive that fresh anointing Family, so that we are empowered with the strength of God to resist the enemy. The spiritual armour God provides and equips us with to stand firm and avoid the snares the enemy sets with his old tricks. But this armour is only effective when we are walking in a fresh anointing.

The enemy’s strongholds must be broken from our lives so we do not fall for his old tricks.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 MSG "The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ."

The enemy tries to erect strongholds in our minds through lies, fear, and distorted thinking. He plants people in our ways to make us think we a re stupid, we are failures, we are not worthy. Lies! 

So we pray for that fresh anointing that will equip us with divine power to demolish these strongholds, keeping us from falling into the old patterns of deception.

We must live in victory over the enemy, Family.

Romans 8:37 MSG "None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us." We are more than conquerors through Christ. 

When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we walk in victory, free from the enemy’s old tricks and traps. His love and power give us the courage to face whatever challenge comes our say with confidence.

Just to be clear: We see here that the old tricks of the enemy are his repeated schemes to lead people away from God. These tricks are called “old” because they have been used throughout history and are rooted in patterns of temptation, deceit, and manipulation. 

Same old predictable tricks. In Genesis, Satan used doubt and deception to tempt Eve (Genesis 3:1-5). In the New Testament, similar tactics are seen when Satan tempts Jesus by twisting Scripture (Matthew 4:1-11).

As believers we are reminded to stay vigilant and rely on God’s truth to recognize and resist these tactics.

Today Lord, we pray for a fresh anointing - empower us Holy Spirit to recognize, resist, and break free from the enemy’s old tricks. 

Let us give free access to the Holy Spirit, Family. We can no longer allow the enemy to derail us from the path God has laid out for us.

The Word of God tells us in Romans 8:14 NLT - “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.”

May the power of the Holy Ghost fall on me, fall on you even now, in the Mighty Name of Jesus.
