Fresh Anointing to Overcome Fear and Anxiety

God created us with a lot of emotions, many of them positive but many of them not necessarily so.

These emotions serve specific purposes, so that we can respond to happenings in the world.

Proverbs 22:3 NIV confirms this. “The prudent see danger and take refuge...”

Fear and anxiety are some of the emotions that we would rather not have on a regular basis. It’s a scary feeling and can negatively impact one's health.

Many of us may have heard about what psychologists describe as the brain’s “fight-or-flight” system to protect us from harm.

So while fear can motivate caution and preparation, it can also lead to stress, anxiety, heart disease, hypertension, gastrointestinal issues, respiratory problems, and sleep and mental health disorders.

So what we talking about here today is a serious life and death issue for which we need the Holy Spirit's anointing.

We spoke yesterday about spiritual warfare and I dare say that fear and anxiety are powerful forces that can work against us, if left unchecked.

So today, we are seeking fresh anointing from the Holy Spirit to equip us to face them with peace, courage, and faith.

Peace, peace, wonderful peace. The Spirit’s anointing provides peace even in the midst of chaos.

In Philippians 4:6-7, we are instructed not to be anxious about anything but to present our requests to God with thanksgiving. In exchange, God promises His peace, which guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

This peace is not dependent on our circumstances, but on the presence of the Holy Spirit within us. When we begin to feel anxious, worried or fearful, we are encouraged to invoke the Holy Spirit for fresh anointing, for that reminder that God is in control.

That fresh anointing that we get strengthens our trust in God's protection and provision.

What do you get most anxious, nervous or fearful about? Is it not when you feel vulnerable? Or when you feel like you are losing control of a situation? Think about it.

In those times, remember Isaiah 41:10 where God reassures us “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

And even now, we can reflect on those times and testify how God's presence brought us through that season.

Family, in moments of fear or anxiety, we seek fresh anointing to renew our hope and courage in challenging circumstances.

In moments of fear and anxiety, let us declare God’s promises over our lives, reminding ourselves that He is our protector and provider.

2 Timothy 1:7 “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”

Fear often leaves us feeling helpless and hopeless. However, this fresh anointing brings renewal to our spirit, instilling hope and courage to face even the most difficult challenges.

When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, people can say what they like about us, do what they want to us, ostracize, reject and abandon us, it won’t even matter. Why? Because we are empowered to rise above the initial hurt, disbelief and particular circumstance and move forward with boldness.

So what are we going to do today? Absolutely. We will replace fear with faith and anxiety for assurance. Hallelujah. We won't shrink back, sulk, sit down and do nothing, nor will we surrender.

Psalm 56:3-4 “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

The ultimate truth is Family, that God is greater than any fear or threat. If we believe that, we will overcome fear and anxiety. The emotions will still come, but we will react differently, like we are freshly anointed. Amen?!

And remember John 14:27 where Jesus says “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Remember Romans 8:15 “The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’

Just a reminder for me and perhaps for someome else listening today - we have freedom in Christ Jesus.

The Holy Spirit does not lead us to fear but to a deep, intimate relationship with God. As sons and daughters, we have the privilege of calling on God as our Father, knowing He is always there to care for us.

He is the Giver of good gifts. Let us ask Him today for fresh anointing to overcome fear and anxiety.
