Fresh Anointing to Renew our Strength

Continuing with the theme of fresh anointing, I am led to reassure us further that when we receive that fresh anointing from the Holy Spirit, our strength will be renewed.

Just to reiterate: anointing refers to the act of being chosen, consecrated, or empowered by God for a specific purpose. It symbolizes the presence and power of the Holy Spirit upon a person, enabling them to carry out God’s will.

The anointing can also signify being set apart for holy service and receiving divine favour or authority.

In the Old Testament, oil was used as a physical sign of consecration.

Exodus 30:22-25 NKJV talks about the oil being prepared to consecrate the tabernacle, its furnishings, and the priests, setting them apart for God’s service.

“Moreover the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ‘Also take for yourself quality spices—five hundred shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much sweet-smelling cinnamon (two hundred and fifty shekels), two hundred and fifty shekels of sweet-smelling cane, five hundred shekels of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil. And you shall make from these a holy anointing oil, an ointment compounded according to the art of the perfumer. It shall be a holy anointing oil.’”

In Isaiah 61:1 (NKJV), the anointing is connected to the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. This was fulfilled in Jesus Christ as we read about in Luke 4:18-19 and it extends to us as believers through the Holy Spirit.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”

We spoke yesterday about receiving fresh anointing to avoid the old tricks of the enemy.

Today we are reminded that we can also receive fresh anointing for renewed strength to endure as the battles rage on.

Isaiah 40:31 MSG "But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles. They run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind."

So when we feel worn down by the enemy's repetitive tactics, we can draw for the Holy Spirit to refresh us, and help us to soar above the lies and struggles.

A fresh anointing keeps us from growing weary in the battle.

Matthew 26:41 MSG "Stay alert; be in prayer so you don’t wander into temptation without even knowing you’re in danger."

Stay alert, Family. Don't be distracted. Distractions is one of the enemy’s old tricks. Truth be told, I often fall victim to this. I tend to get distracted very easily and this is something I am definitely working on correcting.

This is a temptation that we don’t immediately recognize as dangerous. Oh for that fresh anointing to keep us spiritually alert and prayerful, guarding our hearts and minds against the temptation to be distracted.

Family, the Holy Spirit is our Helper.

The Bible tells us in Luke 11:13 MSG "If you, sinful as you are, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?"

So in our times of weakness, let's turn to our Father who delights in giving us the Holy Spirit, who brings fresh anointing.

Then, my brothers and sisters, we can walk in newness of life, free from the bondage of sin and old habits.

2 Corinthians 5:17 MSG "Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new.

Family, God has promised to equip us with everything we need to thrive in this life.

Philippians 4:13 MSG "Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am."

Through the fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit, we have the strength and ability to endure and overcome whatever the enemy throws our way. The power to avoid falling for old tricks comes from the presence of Christ in us, who equips us for every battle.

Life throws us so many curveballs. We get battered and bruised by people and circumstances.

The only help we really have is Jesus.

So we seek God’s anointing. He will renew our strength, sharpen our discernment, and provide us with the tools we need to live in victory.

With the fresh anointing we seek, our strength will be renewed. We will be equipped to stand firm against the schemes of the enemy and walk in the freedom God has promised us.
