Fresh Anointing for Humility, Love, and Servanthood
This week, we have been focusing on fresh anointing for relationships and family.
We have heard how important it is for us to seek the Lord in our marriages and Godly partnerships, and in raising our children. We have heard testimonies of what our Family members have gone through and are going through, and there are yet others who are listening, but suffering in silence.
I have had calls offline about the impact of this ministry series. One sister said that very morning, she told her husband she either wished he was dead or she wanted to kill him because of his cheating lifestyle. All I could do was to rebuke that spirit and pray with her.
Family, this drives home for me how serious what we are doing here is. Now I know also that there are those who are listening who are despising and resisting the information and standing fast in their rebellion. But all we can continue to do saints of God, is to pray. For we believe in the power of prayer, which changes everything.
I want the outpouring of the anointing of the Holy Spirit over my life, and I believe the majority of us here want the same thing. Because we all have some issue that we need the Lord to sort out for us.
Isaiah 10:27 King James Version gives us this reassurance: “And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.”
The anointing of God, Family, breaks the bondage of oppression and burdens. God will soon free His people.
In the meantime, we ask God to consecrate us, empower us through the Holy Spirit, for the challenges we’re facing and will come our way.
In 1 John 2:20 NIV, we receive the word which tells us "But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth."
Now when we talk about humility, we refer to a lack of arrogance and pride. So we have to recognize our total dependence on God and value others above oneself.
James 4:10 "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up."
This is not easy for some people to do, as the tendency to exalt self rears its ugly head all too often. That’s why we need a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit's anointing to keep us grounded in Him.
Then there's the part about love - the selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional care we ought to have for others, reflecting God’s love for humanity. It’s an essential fruit of the Spirit.
Matthew 22:37-39 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself."
And servanthood refers to the attitude or role of serving others, emulating the life of Jesus Christ, who came to serve rather than be served.
Matthew 23:11 "The greatest among you will be your servant." And Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
So this fresh anointing for humility, love, and servanthood speaks to a renewed empowering by the Holy Spirit to live out these key Christian virtues in our lives, as seen in the life of Christ.
We have established that in our walk with Christ, we cannot rely on yesterday’s anointing to fulfill today’s calling. Each day, we need a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit to shape our hearts in humility, love, and servanthood.
“And the Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them. You will be changed into a different person.” 1 Samuel 10:6 NLT.
Saul was an ordinary man until the Spirit of God came upon him, transforming him into a different person. Likewise, we need the Spirit’s power to renew our hearts so that we reflect Christ in how we treat others. Without God’s anointing, pride can creep in, love can grow cold, and servanthood can become a burden rather than a joy.
Jesus Himself set the ultimate example of a humble, loving servant. Before going to the cross, He knelt and washed His disciples’ feet, saying in John 13:14-15: “And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.”
A fresh anointing empowers us to serve with a pure heart, love without limits, and walk humbly before God. The world teaches self-promotion, but God calls us to self-denial. Love in its purest form is sacrificial, and servanthood is the path to greatness in God’s kingdom.
The Apostle Paul exhorts us in Philippians 2:3 “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.”
If we desire to be used by God, we must continually seek His presence for a fresh anointing.
Yesterday’s humility is not enough; we need renewal. Yesterday’s love may have been tested; we need replenishment. Yesterday’s willingness to serve may have faded; we need revival.
May the Lord pour out His fresh anointing upon us once again, today for humility, love and servanthood.
