Fresh Anointing for Those Waiting Seasons
What are you waiting on? A call back from a job interview? From the bank for a loan application? For the outcome of a court case? For your immigration papers to be approved?
What are you waiting on? For test results from the hospital? For the birth of a baby? For the time to roll around when you go on vacation? For someone you love to return your call?
In these times that we are living in today, especially as Christians, our waiting season very often relates to spiritual matters. For many of us, we have been asking God for a breakthrough regarding our failing health, broken relationship, poor finances or some major life milestone. So our waiting season is about answers to prayers.
People often wait anxiously for things that have a significant impact on their lives. Whatever it is, waiting can be tough, waiting can be nerve-wracking, it can create a lot of stress, it can cause anxiety, or it can be very exciting.
In any event, waiting is generally a period when you wish you would have someone reassuring by your side to let you know that all waiting seasons are opportunities for growth, renewal, and fresh anointing from God.
Hence, we are here today to seek fresh anointing from the Holy Spirit for those waiting seasons.
We need to understand Family, that waiting must not be a wasted opportunity. Even in our waiting God is working.
In the book of Habakkuk, the prophet had been questioning God about the apparent triumph of evil and injustice. In response, God instructs him to write down a vision that reveals His divine plan.
Habakkuk 2:3 (MSG) – “This vision-message is a witness pointing to what’s coming. It aches for the coming—it can hardly wait! And it doesn’t lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time.”
Perhaps the more popular version of this verse is from King James: “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
The Word of the Lord! Applicable for us even today. Sometimes, waiting feels like a delay, but God is using this time to prepare, refine, and strengthen us. Are we available, even in those waiting seasons.
Whatever our waiting season at this time, we have to trust that God’s timing is perfect, even when we can’t see the full picture.
During these waiting seasons, we are encouraged to seek the Lord for fresh anointing, fresh strength, renewed energy and power, and most importantly, we must remain in Him. Instead of growing weary, lean into God’s presence and receive His strength.
Psalms 46:1-3 “God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him. We stand fearless at the cliff-edge of doom, courageous in seastorm and earthquake, Before the rush and roar of oceans, the tremors that shift mountains. Jacob-wrestling God fights for us, God-of-Angel-Armies protects us.”
That fresh anointing that we need in those waiting seasons comes through trusting God's plan. See, when we let go of our own plans and trust God, He anoints us for the next step. Has anybody had that experience?
From past experience, we know full well that listening for God’s voice in everything we do, everywhere we go, will keep us on track. We win when we surrender to God's plan and receive a fresh outpouring of His Spirit.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 “But blessed is the man who trusts me, God, the woman who sticks with God. They’re like trees replanted in Eden, putting down roots near the rivers— Never a worry through the hottest of summers, never dropping a leaf, Serene and calm through droughts, bearing fresh fruit every season.”
What do we do in those waiting seasons? I know it's difficult but we have to pray and we have to praise the Lord amidst it all. Why? Because God loves it when we praise Him and He loves it when we pray to Him. And certainly prayer opens the door for fresh anointing and so does praise.
Instead of complaining during the waiting season, let us choose to worship and pray. Worship brings God’s presence, and in His presence, we receive fresh anointing.
Philippians 4:6-7 – “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down.”
Now tell me you have never experienced that!
Family, waiting seasons are times to receive a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit renews and equips us to face whatever trial or anxiety, bad news, or uncertainty, we may be going through.
2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, while Romans 8:26 reminds us that the Holy Spirit is there to help us in our weaknesses.
Most importantly, Family, in those waiting seasons, we have to remain positive, with the mindset that breakthrough is coming, our miracle is on its way.
Read a Psalm. Chapter 23 is a good one. It tells us that God is preparing a table for us, even in the presence of our enemies. Verse 5 –“You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing.”
In those waiting seasons, we seek fresh anointing so that we can stay faithful to God, we stay spiritually prepared, knowing that He has everything under control.
My experience has been that pretty soon you won't even remember that you're in a waiting season. What has happened to me is that I got the job, the project started coming together, that broken relationship was mended, the pain eased, the bill was paid, and I can go on and on.
So the message here today is that waiting seasons are not seasons of emptiness but of preparation. If you are moaning and complaining, stop it.
God gives fresh anointing, that renewed out pouring of his power, presence and guidance, to those who seek Him.
That fresh oil of anointing from the Holy Spirit that we receive in those waiting seasons, will strengthen us to walk in faith, trust God in spite of, hold on to His promises, and be encouraged and inspired to keep on keeping on.
