Step into Your Destiny: Fresh Anointing for Clarity and Purpose.
What is your calling and purpose in life? Do you know? Do I know? Do we know why we were created, and what we should be doing in this life?
According to the Bible, we were created to glorify God: Isaiah 43:7 (NKJV) – “Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”
According to the Bible, we were created to do good works: Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
According to the Bible, we were created to have fellowship with our Creator: Revelation 4:11 – “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”
This is our calling in the truest and strictest and broadest sense. And we can discuss specifics and practicality, because my calling and your calling can vary.
While all believers share a general calling (to love God, obey Him, and make disciples), God also calls people to specific roles, ministries, and purposes in life. And we must be clear. Each of us.
Ephesians 4:1 - “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.”
And 2 Timothy 1:9 – “who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.”
Then we move to the other question: what is our purpose?
According to the Bible, our purpose is to love God: Matthew 22:37-38 – “Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment.”
According to the Bible, our purpose is to serve God: Ecclesiastes 12:13 – “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all.”
According to the Bible, our purpose is to make Him known. Matthew 28:19-20 – “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.”
As believers, I think we can safely see that we are all clear on this broad mandate that we have from our Father. What we are unclear about sometimes, or shy about, is how to go about executing our calling and purpose in life.
The thing is as well, is that a lot of us, even knowing our purpose and calling in life, tend to be disobedient, or we tend to get weary in well doing.
But I want to submit to us today that if we are clear in what our calling is and what our purpose is here on earth, that we would continue on, we would keep on keeping on, no matter the challenge, no matter the struggle, no matter the test.
But then if we do not have clarity about our calling and purpose, then that's where we find we would continue to have issues that cause us to get discouraged and lead us to stumble and fall.
So today, we are seeking fresh anointing for clarity in our calling and purpose. For what are we living for if not to fulfil our calling and purpose according to the will of God who made us?
We certainly need a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit's anointing to recognise that we have a calling and purpose, understand the urgency of fulfilling our purpose, seeking clarity from God about what we need to do, and the continued infilling of the Holy Spirit in order to fulfil this calling on purpose.
As Isaiah 61:1 says, we need the Spirit of the Lord God to be upon us, because the Lord has anointed us to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent us to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, And open the prison to those who are bound.
Family, there is a special anointing that comes when God calls us to His purpose. But as we walk in that calling, we need fresh anointing to receive renewed clarity, direction, and power to fulfill His will. Just as oil loses its freshness over time, we cannot rely on yesterday’s anointing for today’s assignment. We must seek God daily for a fresh outpouring of His Spirit.
This fresh anointing keeps us aligned with God’s direction. Psalm 92:10 “But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil.” The psalmist understood that fresh oil represents renewed strength and clarity. Without it, we risk drifting from our divine assignment.
Fresh anointing gives boldness, clarity and power to walk in our calling. Acts 4:31 - “And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.”
Fresh anointing removes confusion and brings spiritual insight. The anointing of the Holy Spirit illuminates our understanding, giving us divine insight into God’s will for our lives. 1 John 2:20 reminds us, “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things."
So today, if any among us should feel stuck, uncertain, or weary in our calling, let us ask God for a fresh anointing for clarity in our calling and purpose.
We can no longer be shy or hesitant or neglectful to do what the Lord has asked us to do. Let us be bold soldiers for the Lord.
Now I wish I could say to us that as we walk in our calling and fulfil God's purpose for our lives that it would be smooth sailing.
I read this in a recent devotional by The Gumbels and it fits in right here. It says:
"Do not be surprised by the spiritual attacks that follow great spiritual experiences."
I mean, we can all look back at our own experiences and recall those times of testing.
Times when we lost our jobs and didn't know how the bills were going to be paid. Times when we were in that bad marriage. Times when we faced sickness after sickness and the medications didn't seem to be working. Times of betrayal and abandonment, burnout. The weariness and the hurt in every circumstance was very real and painful.
But looking back, we can all see how God was preparing us to be better, stronger, and wiser as we walk in our calling and purpose. And we give God thanks for He is so wise and loving.
Family, no matter what is looks like or feels like, we must spend more time in God's presence, seek Him in prayer, and allow the Holy Spirit to renew our vision.
We were anointed and appointed when we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. I remind us today, that the same God who anointed us in the beginning is faithful to give us fresh oil for the journey ahead.
