God Is Greater Than Our Afflictions

Yesterday, we got real about affliction, did we not? We talked about the reality of affliction with our special guest. We were reminded that affliction is part of the Christian life.

Today, I want to stir our faith with this truth: no matter how big our struggle feels, God is greater! Hallelujah.

1 John 4:4 (NKJV) says, “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

So in this life, Family, we will face some battles, struggles, afflictions, trials, and tribulations. But before we talk about that, let’s look again at our identity - who we are in Christ.

The Word says, “You are of God, little children.” That means our very origin is divine. We belong to God. Our story doesn’t start with our problems; it starts with our relationship with the Almighty.

Romans 8:16-17 (NKJV) reminds us, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.”

So we are not fighting for victory. We are fighting from a place of victory. Victory is in our DNA, it is part of our inheritance because we are children of the Most High.

John 1:12 (NKJV) also assures us, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”

Do you believe in the name of Jesus? Well, you already carry the authority and the victory that comes from being a child of God.

Scripture says He who is in us is greater than anything outside of us. It’s not about our strength, it’s about God’s Spirit living in us.

Jesus said in John 14:16-17 (NKJV), “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth… for He dwells with you and will be in you.”

The Holy Spirit is not just a visitor; He has made His home with us as our Helper, Comforter, and Advocate. No outward circumstance, no demonic attack, no worldly pressure is greater than the Spirit of the Living God in us. Amen?!

Romans 8:11 (NKJV) tells us, “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

Let’s think about that for a minute. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is living inside us right now. That is resurrection power, and it’s not intimidated by anything we’re facing.

We have to put things in perspective.

Afflictions can look huge.

Bills can feel overwhelming.

Health crises can feel devastating.

Relationships can seem irreparable.

What we need is a shift in focus.

Psalm 121:1-2 (NKJV) says, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

Our help doesn’t come from our own abilities. It doesn’t come from people. It comes from the Lord — the Maker of heaven and earth!

And Isaiah 40:28-29 (NKJV) reminds us, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength.”

Many times, we are in difficult situations, we are going through trying times, and we magnify these problems, and before you know it, we are stressed out. Why? Because we minimize God instead of magnifying Him.

When we take these troubles to God, when we acknowledge that our God is greater than any affliction, our problems shrink in comparison. Even if they don’t disappear, God gives us the strength to go through. He sends someone to help us along.

We see this clearly in Scripture.

Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den, yet he trusted God and was unharmed. Daniel 6:22  (NKJV) says, “My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me…”

The lions were real. The threat was real. But God was greater.

And David, facing Goliath, stood with boldness and said, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts.” (1 Samuel 17:45, NKJV).

David didn’t deny that Goliath was strong. He simply knew that God was stronger. Hallelujah.

What’s the lesson? The size of the enemy doesn’t matter. What matters is the size of our God and that nothing is impossible with Him. That’s what makes the difference.

Today, let’s declare this over our lives: “The Greater One lives inside me! No affliction can overcome my God.”

So even when it feels like everything is pressing in on us, when it feels like this is too much and you feel like tripping, know that you are not defeated.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (NKJV) tells us, and we touched on this yesterday: “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.”

Family, afflictions may come, but you are never alone, and you are never defeated.

God is bigger than every attack, every fear, and every obstacle. Let us hold on to that today!
