Maintaining Your Deliverance: How to Stay Walking in Generational Blessings
So, having come through a few weeks of identifying, recognizing, and deciding that we will not allow generational curses to continue to wreak havoc in our families, here we are.
We are walking in our generational blessings. We have determined that even though the road may not be easy, we will press on, we will be positive, and we will declare God's Word over our lives. We are walking in our deliverance. Hallelujah.
Now I wish it was as easy as that. But we know, that as Christians, we will continue to have trials and tribulations day after day. In fact, the Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 3:12 (KJV):“Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”
So, we understand then that deliverance is a process. It is more than a moment. Deliverance has to be a mindset, because it is possible to return to bondage if we are not vigilant.
Romans 6:12-13 (KJV) “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it… but yield yourselves unto God…”
Galatians 5:1 (KJV) “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”
We see here that freedom in Christ is not just about breaking chains, but learning to live free every day. Because every day, we are faced with difficult situations, negativity, sicknesses, struggles.
So the question isn’t just "How do I get free?" but "How do I stay free and walk in the blessings God has made available to me and my family?"
To maintain deliverance, Family, we must train our minds, walk in truth, and understand our new identity in Christ.
Isaiah 26:3 (KJV) “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
Let’s now explore how Scripture guides us in doing that.
1. We must understand that we are already free in Christ. John 8:36 (ESV) “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
This is the reality Family. This is our foundation. We are not trying to get free. We are free. When we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, the chains of sin, shame, and generational curses were broken.
Again, freedom begins in the mind. If you don't believe you're free, you'll live like you're still in bondage.
Romans 6:6-7 (NLT) “We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ... For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.”
Glory to God. The cross didn’t just forgive us, it freed us. Let that truth condition your thoughts every day.
2. Renew your mind daily. Romans 12:2 (NLT) “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think...”
Deliverance, Family, is maintained by the renewing of your mind. Your freedom will not last, my freedom will not last, if our thinking stays the same.
We have to get in the habit of replacing old thought patterns like fear, guilt, addiction, and low self-worth with God’s Word.
Family, when we begin to believe what God says about us, we will stop returning to what He delivered us from. 2 Corinthians 10:5 (ESV) “We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
That's powerful. This is intentional living. We must not let our thoughts run wild. We must bring them into obedience to the truth.
3. Walk in the Spirit, not in the flesh. Galatians 5:16 (NKJV) “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
Walking in the Spirit means staying sensitive to God’s leading, not your old impulses. The flesh will pull you back to what’s familiar—anger, lust, gossip, addiction—but the Spirit empowers you to choose differently.
Romans 8:6 (NLT) “Letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”
One thing we can do or should do is to ask ourselves each day: Who is leading my decisions, my feelings or the Spirit?
We are looking at scriptures that guide us into maintaining that deliverance and walking in generational blessings.
4. Stay rooted in the Word of God. Psalm 119:11 (NIV)
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
God’s Word is our weapon and our anchor. It reminds us of who we are, what we’ve overcome, and where we are going.
When we are tempted to give up or go back, the Word will redirect us. Joshua 1:8 (NLT) “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night... Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”
Here's the key: Success in maintaining our deliverance starts with consistency in the Word.
5. Connect your freedom to generational blessing. Galatians 3:13-14 (NLT)“But Christ has rescued us from the curse... When he was hung on the cross... God blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham...”
When we maintain our deliverance, it’s not just about us, rather, it’s about those connected to us. We are the gateways for generational blessings in our bloodline. Our freedom sets a new standard.
Proverbs 13:22 (NKJV) “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children...” This is not just money, it’s spiritual inheritance. Every time we choose to walk in freedom, we are building legacy.
And,
6. As we maintain our deliverance, help someone else to stay free. Galatians 6:1 (NIV) “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently...”
Your testimony has power. And i believe this with a passion. My testimony is my personal story of how God brought me through, how God is showing His power, grace, and faithfulness in my life. So again, I share my testimony as the Holy Spirit leads, not to please anybody, but to help somebody. So I will not be silenced.
Truth is, our victory can encourage someone else. Our deliverance can spark someone else's deliverance, because deliverance is not just a one-time encounter—it’s a daily walk.
Remember, we are free in Christ. We are blessed in Christ. And we have the power to walk in that freedom—not just for today, but for always, not just for ourselves, but for our families, our future, and generations to come.
