Sacred Scroll or Social Feed? Choosing Truth in a Loud World

Today we continue our series on how to live the real Christian Life. This week, we look at Kingdom Priorities – Values, Choices and Character: How to align our worldview with the Bible in an age of misinformation.

Does anyone think that it’s loud out there? So many voices, on television, on the radio, on social media, from your family and friends, community and political leaders, in your head…

It’s like the scroll never stops — swipe after swipe, story after story, reel after reel. Opinions are trending, lies are packaged so well it feels like truth is drowning in a digital sea of deception.

But as believers living in the age of algorithms, we’ve got to ask: What’s shaping our worldview — the sacred scroll or the social feed? What is shaping the way we live? What people say, what you watch on TikTok?

God has always been speaking to us, His children. But in this digital age, in this day and age of technology, God is calling His people to reclaim truth — not the filtered truth of influencers, but the raw, undiluted truth of His Word.

I’ve been on a quest to find some of our brothers and sisters in the Bible who are lesser known or not very much talked about.

I found Shephatiah, a leader during the reforms of King Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 17:7-9).

While he’s not the star of many sermons, his assignment was critical. He was appointed to teach the Book of the Law of the Lord in Judah — not in the temple, but out where the people lived and worked. They went into the cities with scrolls in hand, teaching truth where lies and idolatry had once ruled.

Sound familiar? That’s what we’re called to do — carry truth into a world that’s consuming noise.

2 Chronicles 17:9 (NLT) says: “They took copies of the Book of the Law of the Lord and traveled around through all the towns of Judah, teaching the people.”

While everyone else is shouting for attention, the truth is walking humbly — and it’s up to us to elevate it. This generation doesn’t just need another opinion; it needs unshakable truth. And that truth comes from God’s sacred scroll — His Word.

As adults, we also do not need to be busybodies, chasing trends or inserting ourselves into every conversation. Instead, we are called to be anchors — steady, discerning, and deeply rooted in the truth.

The world doesn’t need more noise; it needs clarity. And clarity comes from lives shaped by Scripture, not social feeds. Our role is not to mirror the chaos, but to reflect the light — to live in such a way that the truth speaks even when we are silent.

Let me take you to Micaiah — not Micah, Micaiah the prophet, who stood alone in 1 Kings 22.

While 400 prophets told King Ahab what he wanted to hear, Micaiah gave him what God actually said. Micaiah got slapped, locked up, and silenced — but his words were fulfilled because they were rooted in divine truth.

1 Kings 22:14 (MSG) reads: “As surely as God lives, what God says, I’ll say.”

That’s the posture we need. You might get silenced. You might be unfollowed. People might not want to speak to you anymore. But if your worldview is rooted in what God says, then you're standing on eternal truth, not trending topics or in the popular crowd.

When we align with the sacred scroll, we’re aligning with a Kingdom filter. That means checking the source. Not every viral quote is biblical. Not every emotional video is truth. And not every charismatic voice is a prophet.

Family, we have to become more aware and spiritually discerning.

Ephesians 4:14 (AMP) reminds us: “So that we are no longer children [spiritually immature], tossed back and forth like ships on a stormy sea and carried about by every wind of [shifting] doctrine, by the cunning and trickery of unscrupulous men...”

This Word is our anchor in the storm. Without it, we’re adrift — influenced by likes and shares instead of Spirit and truth. That’s why we need to be in the scroll more than we’re on the feed.

Let’s go deeper — have you heard of Shaphan? Shaphan was the scribe who read the Book of the Law to King Josiah when it had been lost for years (2 Kings 22).

The kingdom had been running without it. No reference. No alignment. And when the Word was finally found, Josiah tore his clothes in repentance because he realized how far they had drifted.

2 Kings 22:11 (NLT): “When the king heard what was written in the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes in despair.”

That’s the kind of urgency we need. The Word isn’t just inspirational — it’s confrontational. It calls us to repentance, realignment, and a radical shift in perspective.

So again, the question is asked: Who is setting your values? Who’s shaping your convictions? Are you following the feed or following the fire of the Word?

There’s a young leader in Scripture named Ittai the Gittite (2 Samuel 15).

When David was on the run from Absalom, many were turning back. But Ittai, a foreigner, chose truth over convenience. He said, “Wherever you go, I’ll go.” Not because it was popular — but because it was right.

2 Samuel 15:21 (AMP): “But Ittai answered the king, ‘As the Lord lives and as my lord the king lives, most certainly wherever my lord the king may be, whether for death or life, there also your servant will be.’”

That’s a kingdom loyalty that defies trends. That’s choosing the scroll when the feed screams otherwise.

Let’s bring it home. You and I were never meant to passively consume content — we were born to carry content. Eternal, living content. The Word of God isn’t just history; it’s your strategy, your lens, your filter.

John 17:17 (NLT) says: “Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.”

It doesn’t get clearer than that. Holiness isn’t about hiding from the world — it’s about standing firm in truth within the world.

So today, let us make a conscious decision to choose the scroll. Not just in our hands but in our hearts. Let it guide our values, shape our choices, and define our character.

Turn down the volume of the feed and turn up the voice of the Spirit. It’s not about being louder — it’s about being clearer, rooted, and unwavering.

Family, we are alive right this minute. So this is our moment to realign. To filter everything through the Word. Of God And to choose truth — not because it's easy, but because it’s eternal.
