Unshakeable Faith in Shifting Times: How to Remain Rooted When Life Is Uncertain

Have you ever felt like the ground beneath your feet is constantly shifting? Today you’re up and tomorrow you’re down…or even one minute you’re laughing and the next you’re crying?

It’s like one moment our plans are working out, relationships feel stable, our health is good. Then suddenly, something changes. A job falls through. A loved one gets sick. Doors that were once open start closing. Family members don’t speak to you anymore. Friends or people who you thought were friends abandon you.

It’s in these moments that we realize how unstable life can be.

But here’s the truth: while everything around us may be shaking, our faith in God can remain unshakeable. Because even when life changes, God never does.

Today, I want to encourage us with a word about remaining rooted in faith—even in the most uncertain times.

Hebrews 6:19 (NIV) says, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”

What a powerful image. Think about what an anchor does—it holds a ship steady when the waves are crashing and the wind is blowing. The ship may move slightly, but it won’t drift because the anchor holds it in place.

Family, that’s what hope in God does for our souls. It keeps us grounded when life feels out of control. Isn’t it great to know that our hope isn’t wishful thinking, but it’s rooted in the unchanging character of God?

Psalm 62:6 (KJV) declares, “He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.”

David is writing from a place of experience. He faced betrayal, threats, and seasons of uncertainty, but he recognized that God alone was his source of stability. He didn’t say, “I might not be moved.” He said, “I shall not be moved.”

That’s confidence born from knowing who God is—not based on feelings, but on faith.

So when our lives are built on the rock of God's truth and presence, even when we are hit by waves of bad news or confusion, we will not be swept away. That’s what that means. God is literally your Rock, Salvation, our Defence. Hallelujah.

Jesus gives us a vivid metaphor in Matthew 7:24–25 (NLT): “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.”

Here, Jesus doesn’t promise that storms won’t come—He guarantees they will. But He also promises that when our foundation is His Word, we won’t collapse. Glory to God.

But that means reading, believing, and applying His Word daily so that we can like pour concrete into the foundation of our spiritual lives.

So how do we remain rooted when life is uncertain?

First, stay in the Word daily. Just like our physical bodies need daily nourishment, our spirits need the Word of God to stay strong.

Think of it this way: if the only time you eat is once a week, you’ll be weak and malnourished. The same goes for your faith. Even ten minutes a day in God’s Word can make the difference between anxiety and peace, between confusion and clarity.

Joshua 1:8 (ESV) says, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night… For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

I am sure many of us can testify that when we meditate on God’s Word, it gives us strength and direction even when life feels like it’s spinning.

Secondly, anchor your identity in Christ, not your circumstances.

Life is so full of titles and labels—employee, parent, student, leader. But those things can change. You could lose a job, a relationship, or a status, and suddenly feel like you’ve lost yourself. Why? Because you were caught up in the title, or position, or the accolades, or the perks that came with the title.

But when our identities are rooted in Christ, we remain secure. Nothing can move us from the position of being a child of the Most High God. Hallelujah.

Romans 8:38–39 (NIV) assures us, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life... nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Family, we are reassured today that our values don’t change based on our situations. God’s love is what define us.

Point number 3 - stay connected to your faith community.

We weren’t designed to go through life alone. I have to remind myself of this very often, especially during storms.

Has anyone ever watched a fire go out when a coal rolls away from the group? What happens? It loses its heat, right? On the other hand, when coals stay together, the fire stays strong.

That’s how it is with believers. When we gather—whether online or in person—we strengthen each other.

Hebrews 10:24–25 (NLT) says, “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together… but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”

Fourthly, practice gratitude and speak truth over your life. When life is uncertain, our emotions can spiral. But gratitude grounds us. Even when things go wrong, there’s always something to thank God for. Gratitude is a spiritual root that stabilizes your soul.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV) reminds us, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

And when you feel overwhelmed, speak the truth of God’s Word out loud. Declare His promises. Say, “God is my refuge. I will not fear. I am more than a conqueror.”

We are at the point where the phone line is open to hear from you.

What helps you stay rooted in your faith when life feels uncertain? Is there a scripture that carries you? A worship song that keeps your heart steady? A promise from God you hold on to?

Remember, ZJoyVI Family, this is a safe space for us to open up and share. Ask the Holy Spirit to tell you what to say, and speak it boldly. Your words might be the very encouragement someone else needs today.

And if you're feeling overwhelmed, I invite you to type in faith: “My faith is unshakeable in Christ.”

So let me leave you with this charge: Life will shift. Storms will blow. Emotions will rise. But God? He remains the same yesterday, today, and forever.

We can be planted, grounded, and steady—not because of our strength, but because of His strength, glory to God. We are rooted. We are covered. We are unshakeable—because our lives are built on the Rock of Ages. Amen!
