Fresh Anointing for Boldness and Evangelism
Is any among us really still shy to talk about the goodness of God in our lives? Surely not.
But if by chance you are, I trust you will be encouraged today to seek fresh anointing for boldness and evangelism, to do as the Lord has asked us to in Matthew 28:18-20.
Reading from The Message version of The Bible, “Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.””
This was not just an order for the disciples, but for us as well today. The timelessness of the language supports the idea that this mission remains central to the identity and purpose of the church today.
So why do some people believe that it’s a job only for spiritual leaders? You might say no I don’t believe that. But in fact, when you don’t rise to the challenge of sharing the message of Jesus Christ on a regular basis, that is in fact what you’re saying.
Some folk make all sorts of excuses not to share - I’m shy, oh let others do it, this person can do it better than I can, I can’t reach as many people as they can.
But do we know that each one can reach one and this is one way the gospel of Jesus Christ can be spread?
So today we want to remind ourselves that each of us must take up the mantle and invoke the Holy Spirit for fresh anointing to empower us to share the gospel with others with boldness.
1 Peter 2:9 "But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted."
Acts 1:8 "What you'll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world."
Family, when that anointing comes upon believers, it grants us the courage to speak God’s truth, even in the face of opposition.
That fresh anointing renews our confidence to share God’s Word, no matter who is looking at us or however much they want to discourage us.
In 2 Timothy 1:7-8 the Apostle Paul writes to his spiritual son saying: “God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible. So don’t be embarrassed to speak up for our Master or for me, his prisoner. Take your share of suffering for the Message along with the rest of us. We can only keep on going, after all, by the power of God.”
If we are still shy therefore, it means we need a dose of fresh anointing to stir up the gift and give us courage to proclaim the Word boldly, knowing that God is with us.
Again, if we study the scriptures, we know that we can only get that boldness to evangelize when we are given the authority by the Holy Spirit.
Luke 10:19 “See what I’ve given you? Safe passage as you walk on snakes and scorpions, and protection from every assault of the Enemy. No one can put a hand on you.”
We will be fully equipped to overcome any spiritual resistance.
Family, today as we invoke the Holy Spirit for fresh anointing, we will be inspired to find creative and effective ways to witness to others. So I am here on social media, on the radio doing my part, and you can do it too. Pastors do it from the pulpit of the churches they lead.
If you don’t have that platform, you can minister from a soup kitchen, as you make your rounds at the healthcare institution where you work, or create an opportunity at your workplace. You can tell your students about Jesus and your fellow teachers too, instead of getting involved in the local gossip and following the crowd in creating mischief.
Straight from the Bible, we go to Matthew 5:14-16 “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.”
It’s 2025 and we must grow in Christ as the day of His appearing draws nearer. We can be as creative as we want in our approach to evangelism, but one thing is sure, we must do it.
So we ask the Holy Spirit for fresh anointing today for the boldness we need to evangelize, to witness, to go and tell, to preach and teach, to let somebody know about Jesus and to live the live He wants us to live.
The goal is to stay on the straight and narrow path and to lead others to Christ as we wait with anticipation for His soon return.
As 2 Corinthians 3:12 says “With that kind of hope to excite us, nothing holds us back.”
I challenge us today to rise from our sleep, don’t be onlookers, let us all do our part to act, speak, and live out His truth without hesitation.
Remember, we all have a ministry and it must be alive and impactful.
If you are shy, draw for the fresh anointing. It’s there for the taking.
