Fresh Anointing for a Life of Holiness and Righteousness
I don't know if you noticed, but for this week we've been touching on topics that relate to our spiritual growth, asking the Lord for fresh anointing for spiritual growth.
On Monday, we asked the Holy Spirit for fresh anointing for intimacy with God, on Tuesday it was fresh anointing Lord, please, for those waiting seasons, on Wednesday we asked for fresh anointing to walk in greater faith and trust and yesterday, Thursday we sought fresh anointing for unshakeable joy and peace.
Today, Holy Spirit, here are your sons and daughters once again, inviting your presence in our midst, as we seek fresh anointing for a life of holiness and righteousness.
Straight off the bat, people may say, I can’t live this Christian life, too many rules. Living a holy and righteous life? Nobody can do that.
Well you are correct if you’re trying to live a holy and righteous life by yourself, in your own strength, on your own merit. The truth is: holiness and righteousness can only be achieved through the constant, regular, moment by moment infilling of the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:15 NIV says if we let the Holy Spirit guide our lives, then we won’t be doing what our sinful nature craves. Left to ourselves, the world and what it has to offer will seem more attractive. But Psalm 119:9 tells us we can stay pure by obeying the Word of the Lord.
We continue to emphasize the need for fresh anointing to empower us for the journey.
In 2 Corinthians 1:21-22, the Apostle Paul was encouraging the church in Corinth: “It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.”
Family, living a holy life means being set apart for God, striving to follow His will, and reflecting His character in our thoughts, words, and actions. It does not mean being perfect, but rather walking in obedience, repentance, and dependence on the Holy Spirit.
As humans, we are imperfect and will sometimes fall short, but through God's grace and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can live a life that honors Him.
1 Peter 1:15-16 says, "But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, ‘You must be holy because I am holy.’"
This holiness is possible not by our strength, but through a continuous relationship with God, daily surrender, and His transformative power at work in us.
Zechariah 4:6 "It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies."
So, we need the Holy Spirit to pour out the fresh oil of anointing on us, to strengthen us spiritually, and help us to live this holy and righteous life.
The Holy Spirit will teach us how to maintain spiritual vitality, overcome challenges and how to avoid yielding to temptation.
Romans 8:9 "But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you."
In John 14:26 Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure. He reassured them that they would not be abandoned. He promised to send the Holy Spirit, the Advocate or Helper to teach them all things.
He said “But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you."
Jesus also said in Luke 24:49 "And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven."
Family, as we strive to live a life of holiness and righteousness, even though the storms of life continue to rage, we will have peace and joy and stability in the Lord.
Remember, a life of holiness is a witness to God’s power in us. To be good ambassadors or representatives or vessels of His, we must constantly seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
To live a life of holiness and righteousness, we must continually seek to remain in His presence. The fresh anointing to do so, comes only through an intimate relationship with God.
This fresh anointing, Family, is necessary for a life of holiness and righteousness. It comes through the Holy Spirit and empowers us to live according to God’s will.
