The Blessings of Abraham: Unlocking Your Spiritual Inheritance

Today we will talk about: The Blessings of Abraham: Unlocking Your Spiritual Inheritance.

Let us establish from the onset that the blessings of Abraham are not just promises made back in Bible days and that’s it. They are spiritual truths that impact us today.

When God called Abraham, He made a covenant with him, a divine agreement filled with promises of provision, multiplication, and divine favour. As we have mentioned before, these  blessings are not just for Abraham but are for you and I and all who walk in faith through Christ Jesus.

In Genesis 12:2-3 (NIV), God tells Abraham: “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

The word “blessing” in the Bible often refers to divine favour, prosperity, and the empowerment to succeed in God's will.

We are so blessed Family, that we take it for granted.

People generally see blessings as mostly just material wealth, what we have - house and land, vehicles etc. But I want us to look at blessings as more so our spiritual wealth – the abundance, peace, and purpose that God has laid out for us.

Proverbs 10:22 (NIV) reinforces this: “The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.”

Now when we talk about inheritance, this is what is rightfully passed down from one generation to another. Spiritually, it means receiving the promises and authority given by God.

Galatians 3:29 (NIV) makes the connection between believers and Abraham’s inheritance. “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

This means that through faith in Jesus, we are included in the same covenant of blessings God gave to Abraham. Isn't that wonderful.

Genesis 22:17-18 – “I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

Genesis 26:3-4 – “Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham. I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed.”

Genesis 28:14 – “Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.”

Family, this is great news for us, especially in those times when we feel like the world is closing in on us, when we feel overwhelmed by the cares of this life.

We are reminded that our inheritance is not only in eternity but also in our present life—marked by God’s guidance, abundance, and fulfillment.

A practical example of this is when someone does not react negatively or is vindictive or revengeful when someone does them wrong. Instead, they have a peace and they are quick to forgive and restore the person who would have repented or even if the perpetrator doesn’t repent.

Philippians 4:7 (NIV): “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

That peace is a blessing—something the world cannot give. It is part of our spiritual inheritance.

Another example is when you reap the favour of God at your workplace or business or in your personal life. Many believers can testify to doors opening supernaturally, promotions given unexpectedly, provision arriving just in time, or your relationships flowing effortlessly.

All of this reflects the blessing of divine favour.

We are talking about walking in Abraham’s blessings, Family.

Walking in Abraham’s blessings means trusting in God's provision and following His guidance, just as Abraham did. Abraham stepped out in faith.

Hebrews 11:8 (NIV) “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.”

Likewise, when you and I walk by faith, when we trust God’s word over our feelings and circumstances, we unlock our spiritual inheritance.

One thing we must understand as well Family, is that we cannot work for the blessings of Abraham. These blessings are ours through faith, not by works. It is not about earning God's favour but receiving it through Christ.

As Romans 4:16 (NIV) says: “Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.”

Family, as we go through this day, let us remember that we are blessed because we are in Christ. Let us stand firm in our faith, embrace our spiritual inheritance, and walk in the divine favour promised by our God.

Through Abraham’s covenant, we can unlock our spiritual inheritance. Through Abraham’s covenant, we have access to a life of peace, purpose, and divine provision.
